The heat is on! The days are longer and everyone is outside much more. Lighter bodied reds, fresh fruity rosés, and crisp, refreshing whites are what we all look forward to, especially in the evening when the sun goes down. Here are some tips to enjoy your precious wines during the Summer:
1. Keep it chill – White wines should ideally be served between 49 and 55 degrees. For red wines, that serving temperature bumps up to 62 to 68 degrees. Chill your red and white wines in the fridge a few hours before serving,
2. Look for wines with low tannins – tannins are what makes a wine dry, like when you have the puckering sensation after taking a sip of wine. Higher tannic wines are bolder and heavier, whereas low tannic wines are easy drinking wines.
3. Drink non oaky wines – Oaky wines are richer and more dense. Enjoy more fruit forward, juicy wines, both red and white. These non oaky wines also pair well with light salads, grilled meats and veggies, and fresh fruit.
Some wines to consider are Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, and Gamay.
